Chess has its roots in 7th century India, and people have been playing it actively for centuries. While our society has evolved, chess has always maintained its place in society as a board game that focuses on strategy, but also competition and intelligence. Our focus here at the Day & Knight Chess club is to provide everyone with direct access to a plethora of chess services and ways for kids to discover their love for chess, and also become the best they can be at this amazing game.

Free monthly USCF-rated tournaments
One of our main goals as a nonprofit chess organization is to encourage kids of all ages to play as much chess as possible. That’s why we host free USCF-rated tournaments every month. The goal of these tournaments is to help players improve their ratings, but also to access scholarships and win all kinds of prizes. These tournaments take place on a monthly basis in Corona, CA, and they offer an excellent opportunity for locals or any chess lover to become a part of the community and improve their skills.
Academy classes
Aside from focusing on chess for kids events, we also have our own academy classes. These are classes designed to help students learn how to play chess, improve their skills, and prepare for any type of chess competition. The academy classes are suitable for different levels, ranging from beginners to advanced students. It’s very important for us to foster a sense of confidence and growth while allowing every child to pursue their love for chess.
Mentorship programs
It’s our mission to help high school students improve their skills, boost their confidence, and access the resources they need to thrive in their field of choice. Our mentorship programs are a major part of that, because we inspire our students, we help them focus on resilience, lifelong learning, while providing access to a variety of workshops and specialized programs.
Our mentors are people who have a huge passion for chess and years of expertise acquired via playing in tournaments. We are focused on assisting everyone as they deepen their love for chess and want to become the best at this game. Additionally, we provide advice and guidance, along with 10 mentoring sessions and group workshops that focus on developing and enhancing your chess skill set.
After-school chess programs
It’s very important for us to make sure that kids get accustomed to chess early on. And that’s why we have numerous after-school chess programs designed to enhance chess skills. Our club offers a 5-week after-school program for students ranging from 1st grade up to 8th grade. We follow a curriculum that’s all about strategic thinking, worksheets, engaging lessons, and creative gameplay. The program ends with an on-site tournament, where students get to compete with one another and test their skills.
Casual Play
Day & Knight Chess also encourages kids to meet up and play chess in an organized environment. These sessions are offered free of charge, and they are for players of all levels. That way, they get to practice against other players, play for fun, or sharpen their skills. Casual play rotates weekly between two locations: Fridays at the Day & Knight Chess Academy (inside Corona Heritage Park & Museum) and Wednesdays at El Cerrito Library. For more info on dates for the rest of 2025, check it out here. If you do so, you’ll have lots of fun playing chess against like-minded players.
Free courses
If you find it difficult to learn chess on your own, then you’re in the right place. We are here to help you achieve that with a free beginner course. The primary focus is to help you better understand the mechanics of the game, and you’ll undergo a chess assessment as well. If you want to master the basics, our free course is a great starting point, and you can get started with that right away.
